Special Edition News and Notes

Please take some time tomorrow to vote in regards to the Washtenaw Intermediate School District's Special Education Millage.

Whitmore Lake Public School's Board recently gave a special presentation to the public reviewing the ballot and the benefits students in Whitmore Lake would receive if it passes.  You can see the presentation in its entirety HERE. Below is a summary:
  • The WISD's 1.5 mill request will help offset the costs of educating Whitmore Lake's students who have special needs.
  • This is a ten-year request.
  • Many of the costs associated with educating students with special needs are covered by the WISD but WLPS still spends between $400,000 and $500,000 of its general fund to cover costs not covered by the WISD. This millage increase will close that gap.
Anybody who lives in the Whitmore Lake Public School district and is a registered voter is eligible to vote tomorrow.
